Project Kindness    1996

Amy Loewan collaborated with the Canadian Kindness Movement to create an art exhibition in celebration of the 1996 Random Acts of Kindness Week in Edmonton. As an artist in residence, she worked with the entire school population of Mary Hanley Catholic School (kindergarten to grade 6). Employing drawing medium of ink and charcoal, using instruments of pen, brush, wooden sticks and fingers, children were instructed to write the word "kindness" in over 30 different world languages. Over 1500 pieces of small drawings were created in two weeks. Children’s drawings together with Amy’s artwork became a major exhibition entitled Project Kindness which was shown at the Edmonton City Hall. Amy continued with the theme kindness in two subsequent exhibitions: Earnestly & Truly a Community Project 1998 at The Works Visual Arts Festival, Kindness One Language 2001 for the World Kindness Day Celebration at Edmonton City Hall.
